Uruguay gets 950MW in proposals for 2014 tender

URUGUAY: The Uruguayan government has received 950MW of proposals from 15 companies for a 150MW tender.

Uruguay failed to introduce any new wind capacity in 2009

22 projects in all were put forward, with national utility UTE due to make a decision on contracts by the end of the year. The developments are expected to come online by 2014.

Regions proposed for wind developments are Cerro Largo, Florida, Lavalleja, Maldonado, Montevideo, San Jose and Tacuarembó.

According to the latest “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç Windicator, Uruguay has a wind energy capacity of 18MW. It failed to bring any new capacity online in 2009.
