A delegation led by Uruguayan vice president Danilo Astori visited a wind turbine factory in Chennai, south India owned by wind power company RRB Energy.

Astori said that Uruguay needed the help of a technical partner to meet the increased demand for wind power in the country.

Last month, Uruguay confirmed plans to install 500MW of wind power by 2015, with 300MW coming from requests for proposals to be completed this year.

22 projects totalling 950MW were put forward by 15 companies for a 150MW tender issued by the Uruguayan government in July.
