Next in line is a 93MW facility at Sah, in the Balikesir-Bursa region to the south of the Sea of Marmara, scheduled to start building late April.
Agaoglu acquired the Sah project last year when it bought Galata Wind Energy, with its portfolio of 203MW, from the Italian-Dutch renewables specialist Relight for an undisclosed sum. In addition to Sah, the portfolio also comprises 80MW at Tatlipinar and 30MW at Edincik, in the same region.
Both had been given regulatory approval, but this was recently revoked by the regulatory authority says Kor Ozay, the group's Business Development Coordinator. Agaoglu is challenging the decision in the courts.
The group is targeting 1GW of installed capacity by 2015 to be split as evenly as possible between wind, hydro and thermal plant. This will represent a total investment of around EUR1.5 billion.
