Wind Wire: South Africa - Western Cape project under way

Up to 300MW of wind power is under development in the Western Cape province.

The project, dubbed Caledon Wind, is a joint venture between Swiss developer and operator Genesys Wind and the Thuthuka Group, a South African engineering firm. The environmental impact assessment should be completed in June and Genesys says it expects to sign a power purchase agreement with state utility Eskom in coming weeks. They also have a turbine supplier lined up, though Genesys declined to give further details. Developers will start with 50MW before proceeding to the full roll-out.
