Vestas broadens technology reach

PHILIPPINES: Danish wind turbine manufacturer Vestas has inaugurated an information technology (IT) hub in the Philippines to support its global operations.

Vestas runs three other IT centres: in Denmark, Singapore and the US.

The Philippines wind market has stagnated despite strong potential. The one wind plant in operation is a 33MW wind farm in Bangui Bay, Ilocos Norte, run by the Northwind Power Development Corporation. It uses Vestas turbines.

Vestas has been active in the Philippines since 2003 and continues to provide service support for the project, says Maran Gopalakrishnan, head of communications for Vestas' Asia Pacific operations.
