Wind Wire: Canada - Two new wind farms online

Two new wind projects came online in Canada in February.

Montreal-based Boralex completed the 40MW first phase of its Thames River project in Ontario. The facility, made up of 20 Enercon 2MW turbines, has four contracts with the Ontario Power Authority under its former renewable energy standard offer programme. It will receive a guaranteed tariff of C$0.121/kWh for 20 years. In British Columbia, the Grouse Mountain ski resort on the outskirts of Vancouver inaugurated its Leitwind 1.5MW turbine in a February ceremony. The turbine is expected to supply 25% of Grouse Mountain's annual electricity needs.
