The venture extends to the municipalities of Vila Real, Mondim de Basto and Vila Pouca de Aguiar. Quercus submitted its objections during the public consultation on the environmental impact assessment of the project.
Wind Wire: Portugal - Green group fights mountain wind
Portuguese environmental association Quercus is opposing the construction of wind farms in the mountains of Marao and Alvao. It argues that the proliferation of wind turbines may disturb and even harm local wildlife. The project for the Vilas Altas Wind Park foresees the installation of 56 turbines, 73 kilometres of power lines and 4.2 kilometres of new roads that go through the Natura 2000 Network and partially enter the National Park of Alvao.
