Wind Wire: Egypt - Middle Eastern firm wins deal
Abu Dhabi's Masdar has signed a deal with the Egyptian government to build the country's first wind farm. The 200MW project, which will be located in the Gulf of Suez, is part of Egypt's aim to derive 20% of its energy from renewable sources by 2020. Egypt currently has a wind power capacity of 430MW, chiefly from wind farms near the Red Sea. The deal follows the announcement of the final shortlist for Egypt's first privately owned wind farm, a 250MW project that is also in the Gulf of Suez.
