Powerwind wins Bulgarian wind farm project

BULGARIA: New turbine builder Powerwind has won its first piece of business in Bulgaria, commissioning a 900kW turbine at a site near the city of Kavarna on the Black Sea.

The Powerwind PW56 900KW turbine will be used at the Bulgarian site

The customer is a local company named the Milenium Group, an industrial firm based in Nesebar whose key business has been manufacturing machine tools but which has recently started developing wind farms.

Now with a foot in the door, Powerwind says it is conducting sales talks with other potential Bulgarian customers and expects to receive follow-up orders in the coming months.

In preparation for additional orders, Powerwind has reached a service cooperation agreement with Bulgarian service provider ABC aimed at ensuring Powerwind "can give the best possible service to all customers in Bulgaria".

Powerwind was founded in 2007 as a subsidiary of renewables group Conergy. It was bought in October 2008 by Warburg Pincus, an international investor. The company has 900kW and 2.5MW turbine types.

The 900kW machine has been in series production since January 2008 at a factory in Bremerhaven. Series production of the 2.5MW turbine, unveiled in March 2009, is to start in 2010.
