GIPE STEPPED DOWN

The outgoing executive director of the Kern Wind Energy Association (KWEA), Paul Gipe, is being replaced by a former state legislative aide, Linda White. Gipe stepped down to pursue writing on wind energy. KWEA was formed 13 years ago to represent wind companies in Tehachapi in southern California, the world's largest concentration of wind turbines. The 5000 turbines generate some 1.3 billion kWh a year. KWEA estimates the industry provides $120 million in annual revenues to the local economy, employs 570 people and indirectly supports another 2600 jobs in the area. The annual payroll is $16.4 million and it pays vendors another $11 million.
