Dutch utility Eneco bids for rights to 120 MW offshore wind project

Utility Eneco of Rotterdam has joined with wind developer Evelop and Energy Investment Holdings -- both of the Netherlands -- in a bid to buy rights to the 120 MW Q7-WP offshore project from E-connection. With Eneco's signature on a letter of intent, Evelop's parent, Econcern, is optimistic the protracted negotiations with E-connection can now be closed (“uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç, January 2005) and is planning for the project's completion early next year. The company's Ernst van Zuylen says Evelop is in the final stages of discussion with contractors, including turbine manufacturer Vestas, foundation suppliers the Smulders Group and electrical engineers Fabricom. "We are fairly confident that preparatory building can begin in May, but there remains a lot of work to be done," he says. The EUR 287 million project is to be built 23 kilometres from Egmond off the Dutch coast in the Dutch Exclusive Economic Zone.
