The NedWind 40 is a stall controlled machine, but the 20 metre blades (made by NedWind) pitch hydraulically as a safety mechanism in strong winds. The turbine, with a site dependent rated capacity of 400-500 kW, has two generators of equal size and the patented yaw drive uses a cable slung around the tower top, rather than gears. As can be seen in the photo, the Nedwind 40 has two generators of the same size on a double outgoing shaft from the gearbox. A single speed version has been ordered specifically by the US client. The dual speed version has two small additional generators.
Back in the USA
Shipping this month: After a decade away the Dutch wind industry has re-entered the American market. NedWind is to deliver a turnkey wind farm of 20 of its two-bladed Model 40 turbines for a site in Palm Springs. The $13 million project is financed by a Dutch investment group which already has a small stake in NedWind's parent, Hollandia. The turbines, now being put together at NedWind's Rhenen premises (above) start shipping this month, with completion of the wind farm scheduled for June.
