Mingyang Wind Power Group to make 3 MW turbine
Privately owned turbine maker Guangdong Mingyang Wind Power Industrial Group will add a 3 MW turbine to its portfolio in the second half of 2009. The company says its new turbine, jointly developed by Mingyang and German wind turbine engineering company Aerodyn, will be the world's first super-compact drive (SCD) turbine for both offshore and onshore use. Aerodyn's SCD technology attracted great interest from wind industry engineers when unveiled more than a year ago (“uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç, September 2008). Although twice the capacity of Mingyang's current 1.5 MW turbines, the SCD turbines will weigh just over half as much, says the company's Wang Jinfa.
