Japan's Nippon Oil to sell wind generated electricity
Japan's largest oil company, Nippon Oil Corp, will start selling wind generated electricity from March. It is installing a GE Wind1.5 MW turbine at its oil depot in Akita Prefecture in northern Japan, for ´300 million. Around 30% of the estimated output of 3.5 million kWh will be used to run the oil depot, with the rest sold to local utility Tohoku Electric Power Company. Nippon Oil is planning more turbines and hopes to sell some of the output directly to private companies. Other areas in Akita, Niigata and Kagoshima Prefecture are being considered for future projects.
