Italy's Enel launches renewables unit

Italian utility Enel has established a dedicated renewable energy subsidiary, Enel Green Power, to develop and operate the utility's wind and other renewables projects in Europe, North America and Latin America. Enel owns 4.3 GW of renewable energy capacity, 1 GW of which is wind. By 2012 it hopes to increase that to 7.4 GW, with wind accounting for just under 65% (4.7 GW) of the total. Enel has previously said it may sell a minority stake in Enel Green Power.
