Nippon Steel to move tower manufacturing to China

Nippon Steel, Japan's largest manufacturer of towers for wind turbines, is ending its production in Japan in favour of subcontracting the work (for wind turbines of up to 1.5 MW in capacity) to a shipyard in Shanghai, China. The company will then import the units both for its own use and to sell to other firms. The move is expected to cut overall wind power costs by up to 20%.
