Spain's Iberdrola obtains ISO environment management certification

Spain's largest wind operator, utility Iberdrola, has obtained an Aenor international standard certificate, ISO 14001, for the environmental management of 40 wind plants across the country that make up 53%, or 1313 MW, of the utility's operational wind capacity. Iberdrola says this amount of ISO certified wind capacity is a world record and recognises the company's effective environmental management systems. It hopes to extend the same certification to a further 855 MW before the end of the year. Iberdrola claims to have brought online or acquired a total of 208 MW in wind capacity in Spain this year, bringing its cumulative total to 2465 MW, 52% up on the same period last year. The new capacity comes from: La Magdalena (24 MW) in Burgos province; Cerro del Palo (50 MW) and La Muela I (50 MW) in Cuenca; Larouco II (15 MW) in Orense and Cantalojas (18 MW) in Guadalajara. The company has also connected a further 37 MW from its Hontabilla plant in the province of Soria and is building a 29 MW extension there. Work has on the neighbouring 20 MW Sierro project. In May, Iberdrola announced building on the 46 MW Munilla-Lasanta wind plant in Rioja. It expects to finish the year with 3100 MW of wind plant in operation.
