Quebec's Boralex gets Ontario contracts
A Canadian wind power producer active in France has broken into its home market with a deal to acquire nine projects in Ontario with a planned capacity of 10 MW each. The purchase will allow Quebec's Boralex Inc to double its overall wind power capacity as well as commission its first wind farms in Canada by next year. The nine projects, located near Windsor in southern Ontario, all have power purchase contracts under Ontario's "standard offer" program, which pays a fixed price of C$0.11/kWh for a term of 20 years. Boralex is acquiring the projects from Gengrowth, a privately owned renewable energy company based in Toronto, which will continue as a partner in their development. In France, Boralex has 89 MW of wind capacity running and another 14 MW under construction.
