Expanding capacity on three Azores islands
Portuguese power company Electricidade dos Açores (EDA) is expanding wind farm capacity on three islands in the Azores, where the company owns all electricity production and distribution installations. On Graciosa, EDA will install two 330 kW turbines by 2011, while two obsolete 100 kW turbines will be decommissioned, bringing the Serra Branca Wind Park to an installed capacity of 1.3 MW, 58% more than now. Annual production is estimated to grow to 2.6 GWh. On Santa Maria, EDA has begun expanding the Figueiral Wind Park, with installation of two new 330 kW turbines boosting total installed power 73% to 1.56 MW. Completion of the project is expected by 2011, increasing the island's annual wind production by 2 GWh. At São Miguel, EDA is installing a 9 MW plant.
