Clipper “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç announced firm interest last month from a handful of yet-to-be-named US developers for 134 of its 2.5MW Liberty wind turbines for delivery by the end of 2007. A prototype of the machine has been running since the middle of last year.
Clipper is also reviewing the allocation of another 155 Liberty turbines that it had previously tagged for 2006 delivery. The recast strategy includes potential third-party buyers rather than the company's initial plan to install the turbines into its own projects. Clipper also reports heightened interest in Liberty turbines from outside the US, noting negotiations with companies in Mexico, Honduras, Brazil, Canada and mainland Europe.
The company recently ordered $12 million worth of converters from Xantrex Technology to facilitate Liberty's first of a kind technology platform, which consists of four 625kW generator and drive-train modules. Clipper is based in California. Last year it opened a turbine manufacturing facility in Cedar Rapids, Iowa -- near the location of its proposed 150MW Endeavor Wind Farm, the first major wind project to install the Liberty turbine. Alliant Energy will buy the output.
