Portuguese Martifer's US tower plant

Portuguese energy and construction firm Martifer, the co-owner of German wind turbine maker Repower, is to build a tower production facility in America. The facility is scheduled for this year, but is pending final site selection, says the company. The manufacturing unit will serve a Repower pipeline of orders for around 800 MW in the US through a deal announced at the beginning of the year (“uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç, February 2008). In that arrangement, Martifer subsidiary Eviva (which has since been renamed Martifer Renewables) partnered with American developer Spinnaker Wind on wind projects centred in Texas. The phased development is planned for the south-Texas counties of Webb, Jim Hogg and Zapata. The first phase, at approximately 260 MW, is scheduled for 2009 completion. Martifer started life in the wind business as a tower manufacturer. Repower has otherwise received US orders from Enxco, the US wind subsidiary of a major European client, French utility EDF.
