RWE Innogy, the renewables arm of German utility giant RWE, has secured supply of 250 wind turbines from Repower Systems for offshore projects planned in Germany, Britain and the Netherlands. RWE calls the master purchase agreement, worth EUR 2 billion, the largest ever in offshore wind. The first 30 machines, of 5 MW and 6 MW capacity, will be delivered in 2011. Delivery volumes are to rise between 2012-2015. Most of the turbines will go to Innogy Nordsee 1, a project planned for a site 40 kilometres north of Juist in the North Sea using 150-180 turbines with a combined capacity of up to 1080 MW. RWE Innogy bought the rights to the project, previously known as North Sea “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç 3, from Germany's Enova group in January. Project approval is expected by the end of 2009. In the past, permitting authority Bundesamt für Seeschifffahrt und Hydrographie (BSH) has allowed only up to 80 turbines per project. The BSH, however, says new regulations may allow more turbines in certain areas.
