Spanish Gamesa ended last year with a flurry of wind turbine supply contracts totalling well over 800 MW, with the option to supply a further 150 MW. The orders crowned a year in which Gamesa says it installed over 3000 MW worldwide -- a company record and 25% up on its performance in 2006. More than half, 1650 MW went up outside Spain and over 1000 MW was supplied from its new factories in China and the US. The company provisionally estimates a 16% global market share for 2007.

Of the just ordered 800 MW, just 266 MW is for Spain, 174 MW of which was ordered by veteran developer Molinos del Ebro. The rest go to Poland, France, Bulgaria and Morocco for a variety of developers. Portugal's NEO Energía has ordered a combined capacity of 231 MW for projects spanning Poland, Spain and France (page 38). Spanish Eólica de Navarra Holding is taking 90, 2 MW turbines for projects in Poland and Bulgaria, with the 120 MW Polish project being developed by affiliate Generación Eólica Internacional scheduled for completion in 2009, and the 60 MW Bulgarian project developed by affiliate Eólica Bulgaria in the north-eastern district of Suvorovo, scheduled for completion in early 2010. The deal includes an option to supply a planned 100 MW extension of the Suvorovo project.

From France, La Compagnie du Vent has ordered 43 MW for projects this year in the districts of Picoterie, Lanrivoare and Roquetaillade and Société Française d'Eoliennes (SFE), now controlled by Italian power group Sorgenia, has ordered 100, 2 MW machines for delivery in 2011, with an option for a further 25 units. A 10 MW order for Morocco comes from the Lafarge group as an extension to its 10 MW Tetuan wind station, which already uses Gamesa machines. The year-end deals bring Gamesa's order book to over 8000 MW.
