Another 300 MW of wind power for British Columbia

AltaGas Income Trust, based in Calgary, and British Columbia's Aeolis Wind Power Corporation have agreed to jointly pursue the development of another 300 MW of wind power in the province. Their primary focus will be on the Peace River region in the province's northeast, where Aeolis holds more than 20 investigative use permits allowing it to measure the wind resource on publicly owned sites. The project will be bid into the next call for new power by provincial utility BC Hydro, which is expected in 2007. The two companies are already partners, along with the locally based Peace Energy Cooperative, in the proposed 120 MW Bear Mountain Wind Park, also located in the Peace region near the community of Dawson Creek. It was bid into BC Hydro's current call for power, the results of which are expected this summer. AltaGas has agreed to fund a portion of that project and will take a 68% ownership stake.
