A new aesthetic
Works of art in connection with large wind turbines are planned at five locations near Hannover to coincide with the world trade exhibition, Expo 2000, in two years' time. Windwärts Energie, based in the city, has invited 12 German and foreign artists to compete to exhibit their works alongside or as part of a series of 1.5 MW turbines. The project lies within the framework of the "Climate Protection Project Expo-region Hannover." The designs will be presented to a jury of art buffs next month who will pick five to take part in the final exhibition. "The components of the 1.5 MW wind turbines can be included in the artist's design, but the turbine must remain operational," says Windwärts. "The works of art should be such that they can continue to be exhibited for the 20 to 30 year life-time of the wind turbine," the company adds.
