Gamesa to supply 20 MW plant north of Tokyo

Spanish turbine manufacturer Gamesa has supplied Japan's Toshiba Plant Systems with 10 G80 2 MW wind turbines to be installed at Kashima, Ibaraki Prefecture, north-east of Tokyo. Construction of the 20 MW wind farm is due to begin later this year. "Part of our development strategy is aimed at utilising natural energy sources in an environmentally-friendly way. In addition to wind power, we are also looking at micro hydropower and energy services company projects," says Toshiba Plant Systems' Kurihara Hiroshi. The company has no further plans for additional wind investment at present, he adds. Toshiba already operates a 2 MW Gamesa wind turbine at Sodegaura in Chiba Prefecture, east of Tokyo, which came online in November.
