The offsets will come from the 50 MW first phase of the company's planned 450 MW Knob Hill Wind Farm, which Sea Breeze hopes to have online by 2006. But the company still has to find a buyer for the project's output. "We're working on the off-taker issue now," says chief operating officer Tony Duggleby.
Meanwhile, Sea Breeze has teamed up with Boundless Energy LLC, headquartered in the US state of Maine, to propose a 1600 MW high voltage direct current transmission line to run from British Columbia to California. The partners filed an interconnection application with San Francisco's Pacific Gas & Electric Company in December. The submarine cable would run three to 12 miles offshore along portions of British Columbia, Washington, Oregon and California for approximately 1200 miles.
The line, says Sea Breeze, "was conceived as an answer to the challenge of unlocking the many thousands of stranded megawatts of clean, renewable energy that remain unutilised along the rugged and windy west coast of Canada."
