Australian energy provider AGL, just months after securing its third Hallett wind project from Wind Prospect (“uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç, April 2007), has acquired the rights to develop and construct a fourth. The Hallett 4 development, at North Brown Hill, South Australia, is to comprise 63 turbines with a combined capacity of up to 189 MW. It will be the largest of the Hallet developments. As under its previous agreements with AGL, Wind Prospect will secure planning approval and rights to the land. Hallett 4 brings to 460 MW the wind capacity that AGL expects to be operating by 2011, says the company's Michael Fraser. "AGL already has 166 MW of wind capacity in construction in this area and will now have a further 206-306 MW in development. Combined, these wind farms confirm mid-north South Australia as the hub of mainland wind farm investment in Australia," he says. The company will make a final investment decision on the project by late 2009. If it proceeds, commercial operation is anticipated for 2011.
