Two small wind energy projects proposed for "Bronte country" in West Yorkshire have been turned down by a planning inspector. Following a public inquiry which examined three separate applications in the area of England famous as the home of the Bronte authors, a Department of the Environment inspector rejected plans for two turbines at Cuckoo Park, Oxenhope and a further two turbines at Naylor Hill Quarry, Oxenhope where a 225 kW Vestas machine has been operating since 1992. Both schemes would have been close to Haworth -- a village popular with tourists through its connections with the Bronte family. The inspector also refused the third scheme of wind eight turbines at Morton, also in West Yorkshire, because of its impact on the landscape and noise nuisance for local residents. None of the projects had been selected for power purchase contracts under the Non Fossil Fuel Obligation.
