Danish renewables major Ørsted and PGE have made a final investment decision on their planned 1.5GW Baltica 2 offshore wind farm in the Polish Baltic Sea.
The pair expect the project 40km off the coast of Ustka in northern Poland to be fully commissioned in 2027.
They will develop the project in a 50:50 partnership.
Ørsted and PGE have secured a 25-year inflation-protected contract for difference at government auction. They will receive a 2021 price of €71.82/MWh, though this amount is due to be adjusted for inflation annually.
The pair have secured all permits and signed a grid connection agreement for Baltica 2.
All major component and vessel contracts have been signed – including for the supply of 107 of Siemens Gamesa’s SG 14MW-222 DD turbines.
Rasmus Errboe, deputy CEO and chief commercial officer at Ørsted, described Baltica 2 as “a flagship project for offshore wind in Poland”.
Poland aims to have installed 5.9GW of offshore wind capacity by 2030 and 11GW by 2040.
