Irish utility ESB and Scotland-based Red Rock Renewables have reached financial close on their planned 1,080MW Inch Cape wind farm off the east coast of Scotland.
The 50:50 partners secured more than £3.5 billion (€4.1 billion) of funding for the project. This includes non recourse project financing of £2.7 billion from 22 commercial banks.
They will begin offshore construction with the installation of the export cables and offshore substation platform in the second quarter of 2025.
Inch Cape is due to consist of 72 of Vestas’ V236-15.0MW turbines installed on a mix of monopile and jacket foundations. It will also comprise one offshore substation platform and two 85km AC export cables delivering power to an onshore substation.
ESB and Red Rock first secured permitting approval for Inch Cape in 2014 and then won a power deal in government auctions in 2022 and 2024.
First power is expected in late 2026 ahead of commercial operations starting in 2027.
