Denmark approves second European Energy open door offshore wind farm

The Danish Energy Agency has granted developer European Energy a construction permit to build its planned 240MW Jammerland Bugt project.

The offshore wind farm is planned for a site off the west coast of the Danish island of Zealand.

European Energy expects to start commercial operations in 2029. It had also recently secured a construction permit for its Lillebælt Syd wind farm.

Jammerland Bugt was one of 33 wind farms submitted through Denmark’s ‘open door scheme’, whereby developers apply to build an offshore wind farm of a chosen capacity in a specific area of their choosing. However, Denmark paused the scheme in February 2023 – though later resumed permitting for a number of projects, including for Jammerland Bugt – and then scrapped it in order to move to a centralised tendering system.

The first auction held under this new system failed to attract a single bidder, with industry body WindEurope blaming a lack of state support for the failure.
