Ørsted CEO Mads Nipper is open to the idea of using Chinese turbines at the Danish firm’s wind farms, he told reporters today (15 August).
“We reject absolutely nothing in this supply chain,” he said when asked about the possibility of using Chinese turbines during the company’s second-quarter earnings call. "We evaluate on an ongoing basis, what are technologically, commercially and regulatory, the right solutions?”
His comments come as the European wind industry increasingly voices concerns that Chinese turbine manufacturers could eventually put pressure on western rivals due to their ability to offer cheaper prices. The EU is currently probing whether Chinese turbines are being sold with state support that distorts the market.
Nipper added that Ørsted had “followed with interest” moves to line up Chinese turbines for offshore wind farms off the coasts of Germany and Italy in recent weeks.
