Trelleborg is a major transport hub with the biggest roll-on roll-off harbour in Scandinavia. A new 10MW electrolysis plant will produce up to 4 tonnes of green hydrogen per day to serve the region’s heavy transport market.
The facility is expected to start production in 2027, subject to financial investment decisions and the plant receiving the necessary authorisations and construction permits.
The green hydrogen will supply hydrogen refuelling stations under construction in the area. According to Lhyfe, transport and logistics companies want to replace their fleets with low-emission alternatives such as hydrogen-powered vehicles.
The grant, which covers around 40% of the investment needed for the project, will fund the development and design phases, equipment supply and construction.
Sara Wihlborg, country manager for Sweden at Lhyfe, said she welcomed Sweden's focus “on the rapid expansion of a hydrogen infrastructure based on renewable energies”.
Lhyfe’s first electrolysis plant at Bouin, France, has been operating since 2021. Two more sites were opened in France in December 2023. Five more are under construction or extension across Europe.
