Deme and Allseas have installed the offshore substation for the Îles d’Yeu et Noirmoutier wind farm project, developed by Engie-EDPR joint venture Ocean Winds off the Pays de la Loire coast of France.
Having previously installed the monopiles for the OSS jacket foundation in the seabed, Deme contracted Allseas to install the offshore substation (OSS) jacket and topsides.
The two-day job involved the transfer of the jackets and topsides to the offshore construction vessel Pioneering Spirit in the field, followed by direct installation with a 5,000-tonne crane.
The 488MW substation will convert the energy generated by 61 Siemens Gamesa 8MW turbines around 20 kilometres off the Atlantic Coast and transfer the electricity to the French mainland.
Due online in 2025, the offshore wind farm will produce enough energy to meet the annual electricity demands of 800,000 people.
