The UAE-based developer announced on Tuesday (25 June) its investment, which is likely to be more than $500 million, would go towards building a wind project with a capacity of up 400MW capacity around 75km south of the North Macedonian capital of Skopje.
The 400MW Å tip project would increase the country’s wind energy capacity by more than five times, Alcazar claims.
“The project is estimated to create more than 630 construction jobs and, once operational, will produce enough clean energy to power over 100,000 households annually, while avoiding the release of over 670,000 tonnes of CO2-eq per year,” the developer stated.
North Macedonia currently has 73MW of installed wind capacity across two online wind farms according to “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç Intelligence, the data and research division of “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç.
It unveiled plans to speed up renewable energy deployment at the COP28 climate summit last year, which the government said would include a coal phase out from the country’s energy mix by 2030.
The $500 million investment earmarked for the Shtip project will bring Alcazar’s planned investments in the western Balkans to around $1 billion (€932 million).
The energy firm is currently developing the 118MW Bijela onshore wind farm in Montenegro.
