A Californian utility has agreed to aid development of a 60MW floating offshore wind farm to be built near a space base so that it can buy power from it.
California Community Power – a utility aggregating community power needs – signed the memorandum of understanding with Cademo Corporation, which is developing the four-turbine project off the coast of the Vandenberg space force base in southern California.
The two companies plan to jointly bid for grants, incentives and other support to minimise the cost of power offtake.
Cademo aims to start commercial operations of the project in 2028.
