Mainstream handed rights for Philippines onshore wind farms

Mainstream Renewable Power has signed two wind energy service contracts (WESCs) with the Philippines Department of Energy, for the rights to two onshore wind farms: the 100MW Santa Ana Cagayan and 340MW Panaon.

Mainstream is majority-owned by Norwegian energy developer Aker Solutions. Norway’s ambassador to the Philippines Christian Halaas Lyster said he was “pleased to see Mainstream taking advantage of the Department of Energy’s efforts in creating conducive conditions for renewable energy development in the Philippines.”

The country’s energy mix is dominated by fossil fuels but has a goal of meeting 35% of demand from renewables by 2030 and 50% by 2040.
