GE Vernova is in line to supply its 6MW turbines for about 1.5GW of Australian onshore wind capacity through a A$2.75 billion ($1.8 billion) deal with Squadron Energy.
The US manufacturer is due to provide its 6MW turbines, and help with engineering, procurement and construction for Squadron’s 414MW Uungula, 700MW Spicers Creek, 400MW Jeremiah wind farms in New South Wales.
Squadron – the Australian renewables developer opened by mining billionaire Andrew Forrest – also announced that construction work had now started on the Uungula wind farm.
It added that the turbine supply and EPC deal could be worth around A$2.75 billion for GE.
Vic Abate, chief technology officer at GE and CEO of GE Vernova’s wind business, said: “With global demand accelerating, it is essential for Australia to embrace strategic supply chain initiatives to provide certainty in the rollout of renewable energy.”
