Iberdrola completes installation at French offshore wind project

Installation of all 62 Siemens Gamesa SG 8.0-167 DD turbines has been completed on schedule at Iberdrola’s 496MW Saint-Brieuc wind farm.

Construction at the English Channel site off Brittany has taken less than three years. All turbines were installed over the past eight months by shipping firm Fred Olsen's Brave Tern jack-up vessel.

Stéphane Alain Riou, Director of offshore wind Iberdrola France, said: "We are particularly proud of the work carried out by our teams within the schedule initially announced.”

Commissioning has been under way since July 2023 and is set to continue until Q1 2024.

A first tranche of 20% of the wind farm is already operational. A second tranche of 50% is due for completion in early 2024, with the full 496MW due to become operational in the first quarter of 2024.

Saint-Brieuc will be capable of generating 1,820 GWh per year once fully operational.
