Former New York regulator to take over as Vineyard Offshore CEO

US offshore wind developer Vineyard Offshore has appointed former New York energy regulator Alicia Barton as its new CEO as the company moves to build projects off the country’s east and west coasts.

Barton – who previously led the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (Nyserda) regulator – will replace Lars T Pedersen, who has led Vineyard Offshore since it was founded in 2022.

She will start the job in January as the developer – which is sponsored by Danish renewables investor Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners – looks to complete its 6GW-plus portfolio of US offshore wind farms.

It recently secured an offtake agreement for its 1.3GW Excelsior Wind project off New York. And it is pursuing further projects off the coasts of Massachusetts and California.

Outgoing CEO Pedersen also oversaw development of the 806MW Vineyard Wind 1 project, which is currently under construction off the coast of Massachusetts.
