German turbine manufacturer Nordex has been awarded contracts to supply and install 27 of its N163/6.X turbines at three wind farms currently being developed in Turkey.
The contracts will see Nordex send seven of the turbines to the 49MW Kayalar wind farm near Sivas in central Turkey, while an additional eight will go to the 56MW Osmancık project in Çorum to the north.
The largest order is for 12 of the N163/6.X turbines which will be supplied to the 84MW Sağıluşağı wind farm in eastern Anatolia in south-central Turkey.
The manufacturer was awarded the deals by Heitkamp Industrial Solutions, a German-based construction subsidiary of Turkish developer Rönesans Holdings, which co-owns the projects with French oil major Total.
Rönesans had secured offtake deals for the projects in Turkey's third onshore wind tender earlier this year.
Turkey’s energy ministry announced earlier this year that the country would target 18GW of installed onshore and offshore wind energy capacity by 2035 as it seeks to pivot towards renewables and away from the coal, oil, and gas that make up the lion’s share of its existing energy demands.
Rönesans added that the three wind farms would boost its installed wind capacity from 160MW to 355MW in a boost to its stated goal of becoming one of the three largest green energy companies in Turkey.
