Mainstream and Ocean Winds plan second 500MW ScotWind project

Mainstream Renewable Power and Ocean Winds – a joint venture between EDP Renewables and Engie – are partnering on a second ScotWind site, of 500MW capacity. Lying east of Shetland island, it would expand Arven’s scale to 2.3GW.

The first, 1.8GW site, was awarded to the partnership as part of the ScotWind leasing process in 2022.

Ocean Winds was also awarded a separate 500MW site and with Mainstream having completed its acquisition of a 50% stake in the holding company, the two sites will now be co-developed.

Early-stage local engagement, meeting with supply chain partners, local authorities and fisheries representatives is under way.

Mainstream and Ocean Winds are also co-developing a 1.2GW floating project in South Korea and are eyeing the upcoming Utsira Nord tender in Norway.
