A development consortium led by SSE Renewables believes it could boost the capacity of its planned Ossian floating offshore wind farm off the east coast of Scotland to 3.6GW.
SSE Renewables, Japanese conglomerate Marubeni Corporation and Danish asset management firm Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners had initially planned their project to have a capacity of 2.6GW.
But after carrying out geophysical and benthic surveys, the trio now believe they can boost the project’s capacity by 1GW.
The consortium secured the 858km2 site in the ScotWind seabed leasing process earlier this year.
Following an additional allocation round, auction regulator Crown Estate Scotland believes the leases awarded could host nearly 27GW of offshore wind capacity.
