New Jersey’s largest wind project ‘at risk’ without state help

Atlantic Shores 1 has said its project is “at risk” if it does not receive additional financial help, according to media reports.

The 1,510MW project, New Jersey’s second offshore wind farm, is being developed by Shell and EDF Renewables. It is due online in 2027.

Atlantic Shores has contacted the offices of pro-wind Governor Phil Murphy, as well as leaders of the state Senate and Assembly, according to Associated Press.

“To establish a durable, thriving, full-scale offshore wind industry in New Jersey, we need an industry-wide solution, one that stabilises all current projects including Atlantic Shores Project 1, the largest offshore wind project in the state of New Jersey and third largest project awarded in the United States,” the company said in a statement.

Atlantic Shores did not respond to “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç’s request for comment.

The request for state aid comes after New Jersey’s first offshore wind farm, Ørsted’s Ocean Wind 1, received a sizeable tax break at the end of June

Ocean Wind 1 will start construction later this year and will be commissioned in by early 2025.
