Ocean Wind 1 receives final green light from BOEM

Ocean Wind 1 has received a final go-ahead from the US Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM).

The 1100MW project is being developed by Ørsted off New Jersey in the US.

Onshore construction work will start this autumn and the offshore project will be fully online in 2025, said Ørsted.

“Ocean Wind 1 is on the cusp of making history as construction on New Jersey’s first offshore wind farm is set to begin in a few short months, delivering on the promise of good-paying jobs, local investment and clean energy,” said David Hardy, chief executive, Americas, at Ørsted.

“The announcement of Ocean Wind 1’s Record of Decision represents a pivotal inflection point not just for Ørsted, but for New Jersey’s nation-leading offshore wind industry as a whole,” added Governor Phil Murphy.

BOEM’s green light comes days after the state legislature approved, by a one-vote majority, a ‘passback’ of federal tax credits to the project
