The first monopile foundation has been installed at Ørsted and Eversource’s South Fork wind project off the coast of New York.
The foundation will support the substation for the 132MW project. South Fork is due online by the end of this year, and is set to become the US’s first large-scale offshore wind farm.
"This progress on building the first utility-scale offshore wind project in the country cements New York as a national hub for the offshore wind industry,” said New York governor Kathy Hochul.
Owned by Danish renewables major Ørsted and US utility Eversource, the project will consist of 12 Siemens Gamesa 11MW turbines.
“South Fork Wind is on-track to become the nation's first completed utility-scale offshore wind farm in federal waters and will soon deliver enough clean, renewable energy to power nearly 70,000 homes,” said Eversource CEO Joe Nolan.
