The European Commission has given the green light for France to provide €2.08 billion in support for its first large-scale floating offshore wind farm.
France is due to launch a tender in the second half of this year, where developers will compete for a variable premium under a two-way contract for difference.
They will compete for the right to build France’s first large-scale floating wind farm: a 230-270MW project off the coast of Brittany, France’s north-westernmost region.
France pre-approved ten bidding consortiums for the Brittany tender in 2021.
The European Commission approved its plans to provide funding through the tender, concluding that there would be a “limited impact on competition and trade within the EU”.
