Vattenfall renames 980MW German offshore wind farm

Swedish wind giant Vattenfall is forging ahead with plans to build the 980MW offshore wind farm proposed in the German North Sea under the new name Nordlicht I.

Vattenfall had exercised “step-in” rights for the project – previously identified as N-7.2 – to secure its development despite RWE winning the auction to take on the project last September.

It has now officially renamed the project Nordlicht I – or “Northern Light I” in English. The developer believes the 980MW wind farm could be online and supplying power by 2027, pending a final investment decision.

Nordlicht I is planned for a site in the German North Sea around 85km north of the island of Borkum.
