RWE has acquired 100% of Irish firm Western Power Offshore Developments, which is in the early stages of developing a large-scale offshore wind farm off the south-east coast of Ireland.
The developer has not made decisions on the total size of the project, its turbine locations and cable routes, but RWE believes the East Celtic wind farm could have a capacity of up to 900MW.
RWE plans to bid for a power deal for East Celtic in a future offshore wind tender round, offshore wind CEO Sven Utermöhlen said.
The German utility is already co-developing the 600-900MW Dublin Array project off Ireland’s east coast and plans to bid for a contract in Ireland's first offshore wind tender next year.
